Oven-baked fish is perfect for family meals during this Easter season. Pair it with nsima. a Malawian dish, and you will be in heaven. It is simple to make and very satisfying. Try it and go on the other side of culinary pleasure!

Delicious Oven-Baked Fish With Nsima

I love making this meal because it is healthy, tasty, and my whole family enjoys it. It’s really hard to go wrong with oven-baked fish.

Ingredients

  • 2 large fish (Sea bream or tilapia)

  • 3 tablespoons olive oil

  • Black pepper

  • Salt

  • 1 tablespoon sweet paprika powder

  • 1 tablespoon fish spice

  • 1/4 teaspoon chilli powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon chilli flakes

  • 1 bunch of parsley

  • 1 large onion

  • 2 medium-sized tomatoes

  • 2 to 3 limes

  • Ustensils
  • 1 baking dish

  • 1 pastry brush

Directions

  • Wash the fish thoroughly, remove the insides if it wasn't done before and scale it properly.
  • After you have scaled it, rinse very well.
  • In a separate bowl, prepare the seasoning by mixing sweet paprika, fish spice, chilli flakes, chilli powder, salt, black pepper, parsely and olive oil.
  • Make even ridges into the fish and pat it dry with a paper towel.
  • Lighlty grease a baking dish and arrange the fish inside.
  • Season the fish using a pastry brush.
  • Put some seasoning in the belly of the fish as well.
  • Add roughly chopped onions and tomato circles.
  • Cut 2 to 3 limes into circles. Put one circle inside the fish and decorate with the rest. I used 4 circles to decorate.
  • Season again with pepper, chilli flakes and lightly brush the mixture with olive oil.
  • Bake for 55 minutes at 200 degrees Celsius.
  • Fantastic! You can now enjoy the fish with 'nsima'!

Notes

  • You can find the 'nsima' recipe here. I paired the fish with cabbage salad too.
  • I used pink sea bream but you can also use the usual sea bream or tilapia.
  • If the fish is smaller, reduce the cooking time.

Oven-Baked Fish With Nsima—A Must-Try Savoury Dish!

I decided to make this dish during this Easter period so as to remember home. In Malawi, we eat a lot of fish, especially ‘chambo‘. It is often considered a treat and you can pair it with so many side dishes such as nsima, rice or French fries.

  • This dish is easy to prepare and does not require rare ingredients and unusual kitchen utensils.

  • Oven-baked fish helps you to retain the original shape of the fish and you can serve it easily, even to children.
