500g beef (Blade steak)
One red onion (medium-sized to large)
1 can of chopped tomatoes
1 large red bell pepper
1 sweet long red pepper
Olive oil
1 teaspoon paprika
1/2 to 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 teaspoons pepper mix
2 teaspoons beef spice
1/2 teaspoon salt
Black pepper
- Stir-Fry Spinach
1 medium-sized bowl of fresh spinach
1 medium-sized onion
2 medium-sized tomatoes
Olive oil
1/4 teaspoon salt
Black pepper
- Utensils
1 non-stick frying pan
1 wooden spoon
1 stainless steel cooking pot
1 mixer or blender
1 potato masher
Directions for the Beef Stew
- Wash beef and cut it into small cubes.
- Pour about three tablespoons of oil in a non-stick frying pan. The heat should be between medium and high.
- Add the cubes of beef. Stir.
- When the meat is half cooked, remove excess water and keep it as stock or bouillon.
- Add more oil and brown the meat. Add seasoning when you are almost done. This should be half the amount of seasoning as indicated above. Make sure the spices do not burn. The heat should be low to medium during this step.
- Set the meat aside.
- Pour the equivalent of 3 tablespoons in a non-stick frying pan.
- Add onions, 3/4 red bell pepper and sweet long red pepper and fry them until tender.
- Add the rest of the seasoning. Make sure the spices do not burn.
- Add about 3/4 of the canned chopped tomatoes.
- Simmer at low heat for about 15 to 20 minutes. Do not neglect this step. Use a potato masher to speed up the process by crushing the tomatoes.
- Transfer the mixture to a medium-sized stainless cooking pot. Add the bouillon that you kept. This should enhance the flavours of the sauce. Add 1 cup of hot water. Blend or mix the sauce.
- Add the meat that you set aside and let the mixture simmer gently until the meat is tender.
- Serve with nsima and greens.
- Directions for the Stir-Fry Spinach
- Wash and drain the spinach.
- Pour the equivalent of 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a non-stick frying pan.
- Add onions and cook until golden brown. Use medium heat.
- Add tomatoes and cook for about ten minutes still under medium heat.
- Add spinach and cook for about 5 minutes. The spinach should not lose its initial colour. Season with salt and pepper. Enjoy!

Why this Delicious Beef Stew Will Change the Way You spend your Sundays
On my recent trip to Africa, I had the pleasure to eat authentic nsima accompanied by different types of sauces. Oh-my-God! How happy I was to induldge in one of my favourite dishes.
This is why I told myself that I would make a beef stew recipe as soon as I came back to Poland as a way to remember and share my culinary experiences.
I now understand why I could eat this dish every single day. There is no other carbohydrate that I can eat like that without getting bored.
Meat is expensive, especially in Africa, so eating it is quite a treat. This is why we take special care to prepare it so that the food does not go to waste.
The cooking process of beef stew is quite lengthy. It is best to prepare it on a Sunday when you are relaxed and the whole family is available to enjoy the dish.
You can accompany this beef stew with nsima, pasta, rice or potatoes. It’s such a versatile and lovable dish! When you choose to eat your beef stew with nsima, use your hands. This helps you to scoop the relish with ease. Make sure you wash your hands beforehand.
The beef stew should be tender of course. Take your time to cook it slowly so that the meat can release all its juices. Soon the house will be filled with a lovely smell of meat. What a way to spend a Sunday in the comfort of your house, surrounded by your loved ones!
Besides, don’t forget to eat greens to have a balanced diet. In Africa, we often eat rape or Chinese cabbage. In Europe, you can eat spinach, cabbage or even the leaves of radishes. You can add onions and tomatoes. Usually, this side dish is simple. Seasoning it with salt and pepper is enough. The simpler the better! However, do not overcook your vegetables as they can lose most of their nutrients.
Beef stew is the ideal Sunday meal and you can spice up your weekend without necessarily breaking the bank. This dish can easily become your family’s favourite! Moreover, you can eat the leftover meat the following day. It’s tastier and hassle-free!
What is your go-to Sunday dish?
Until next time!
Enjoy!
