Let’s have a closer look at what you can get.

Learn English With Africa short stories

African history is steeped into oral story-telling traditions.

As a child in Malawi, I grew up with absorbing short stories that we called ‘nthano’. They were often about wild animals and Hare was often the cunning hero while Hyena was always in trouble.

Later on, I discovered more short stories in the weekend editions of the Malawi News or Nation newspapers. They were highly entertaining and often morally-based. Above all, they provided us with a lot of vocabulary and useful expressions that enabled us to read more books and improve our English fluency.

Indeed, stories are a great way of learning languages in general. They allow us to discover new words and worlds. In fact, they are a clever way of meeting and studying grammar in context. Besides, they allow students to build their autonomy and self-confidence as their language skills improve.

Our short stories are set in Africa and in the diaspora and are all an interesting read. Some of them also come with vocabulary or grammar charts, a reading comprehension or vocabulary worksheet to facilitate understanding.

We have beginner (A1-A2), intermediate (A2-B1) to advanced levels (B1-B2). You can also buy short stories as a paperback or e-book  >here<

Learn English With Africa vocabulary lessons

Our vocabulary lessons are aimed at giving you the right tools to create your own sentences, paragraphs or full descriptions.

With our thorough lessons, you can learn how to describe yourself, your family, your school, your nearest hospital, your city or village. You can also learn how to talk about a famous historical character or an inspirational person. You can equally describe a poster, an advert, a photograph or a drawing. As a matter of fact, why not also learn how to describe the African continent and its landscape? The vocabulary lessons are numerous and the sky is the limit!

When you learn with us, it is often a step-by-step process where you are able to see how to use words in context. We give you many examples so that you can reuse them as models. You thus become an active and mature learner who is not afraid to take risks or make mistakes.

Besides, we even provide you with a variety of situations. Hence, you can be more creative and adventurous. In the end, you can show off your newly acquired skills to your friends, classmates, colleagues, family members or teachers through practice!

Finally, we encourage you to check the pronunciation or meaning of new words in a bilingual or unilingual dictionary for phonetic accuracy. Remember—speaking is as important as writing! Once you have mastered a vocabulary field then you can enjoy our compelling short stories that give you insightful glimpses into African culture and how people live on a day-to-day basis.

Learn English With Africa grammar lessons

Our grammar lessons are aimed at teaching you grammar in context with the help of memorable charts.

We kill boredom with fascinating situations. Often, you actually forget that you are learning boring grammar information (that you need to know anyway), as you are constantly active. You are invited to think, create, correct, imagine situations so that you see how these grammar tools are actually friendly and easy to use.

Thus, you can learn about the Present Perfect Tense through a short story that is called ‘The Perfect Present’. You can know more about Conditionals by immersing yourself in a short story entitled ‘Unconditional Love’.

The accompanying charts are original and clear. You can always refer to them when you need to clarify a point and do not want to use a cumbersome grammar handbook.

You will also find more lessons on BE, HAVE, the Present Continuous tense, Modal Verbs, Reported Speech and many more.

Finally, as with vocabulary lessons, you get to see grammar in action in rivetting and unforgettable short stories .
